Rose River Farm, Syria (VA) – Trout

Basics:
Where: Rose River Farm, outside Syria Virginia.
When: Saturday, April 18, 2009 – all day
Water Temperature:   Estimate 42-50 °F
Permits: $85 per person, plus VA fishing permit
Catch: 17 jumbo rainbows 18″-24″ (plus a dozen that broke off my line)
Access: Excellent – hip waders are useful

Big Hunting Creek (MD) – Trout

Basics:
Where: Big Hunting Creek, Maryland
Coordinates: 39°37′34N 77°26′32W
When: August 18, 2008
Permits: Maryland State Fishing License and Trout Stamp
Catch: 4 nice sized (12″-15″) Brook Trout
Access: Excellent along entire stream, don’t even need to get your feet wet.

Big Run River (VA) – Trout

Basics:
Where: Big Run River, Shenandoah Park (South End, Mile 81), VA
Coordinates: 37°16′17N 78°41′57W
When: May 24 and June 14, 2008
Permits: VA State freshwater permit, no trout stamp required
Catch: A few small native brook trout (6″ or less)
Access: 6 mile hike in, great back country camping, tough hike out. Easy wading in shallow streams.

Greenbrier (WV) – Trout

Where: Greenbrier Resort, White Sulphur Springs, WV
Coordinates: 37°47′10N 80°19′10W
When: July 26-27, 2008
Permits: Must be a guest at Greenbrier; permit & equipment available for $45 at shop in hotel
Catch: About two dozen rainbow trout (stocked and holdovers) 12″ to 18″
Access: Easy wading (bring hip boots) walking distance from hotel
